A Virtual Event.
Just in time for the holidays, join NYWCA member Diana Pittet of Night Owl Hospitality and special guest Dr. Nicola Nice of Pomp & Whimsy to celebrate three legendary hostesses of 20th-century New York City and learn how to make festive gin liqueur-based cocktails with everyday ingredients.
Dr. Nice will share the stories of three influential NYC hostesses who used their status to create inclusive parties: Perle Mesta, Clara Walsh, and A’Lelia Walker. They not only hosted some of the most infamous parties of the Late-Victorian and Prohibition era, but also recognized that their events were so much more than just music, dancing, and good times. They used their high-society place to bring marginalized voices (especially those of women, men and women of color, and those of the LGBTQ community) into the conversation where they could be heard on equal ground.
We are going to party like it's 1899 and toast the enduring legacies of these women with three special cocktails inspired by their stories. Diana will lead the hands-on cocktail-making demonstration, using Pomp & Whimsy, a gin liqueur created for women by a woman (Dr. Nicola Nice!). If you cannot obtain Pomp & Whimsy, gin and simple syrup can serve as a substitute. For those who would like to experience Pomp and Whimsy Gin Liqueur, you can purchase a bottle here and use code WEWILLMEETAGAIN for a 10% discount, or find a retailer near you for delivery or pickup.
We'll make three cocktails together. You can chose to make any or all of them, either with Pomp & Whimsy Gin Liqueur or with your favorite gin + simple syrup.
A Fine Filly: Pomp & Whimsy/Gin, lime juice, ginger beer & mint
Jubilee Spritz: Pomp & Whimsy/Gin, sparkling wine & lemon twist
Bee's Knees: Pomp & Whimsy/Gin, lemon juice, honey & lemon twist
This event will be held virtually via Zoom.
The link will be sent to attendees within 24 hours of the event.
